Catering Assistant
Job Summary
To assist the Cook in the provision and serving of an exceptional standard of all food on a daily basis to a Residential Care Home To provide cover when required on an adhoc basis..
To cover a range of different 6 hours shifts across 7 days a week, when needed:
Earlys – 7am – 1pm
Lates – 1pm – 7pm
Salary – £9.75 per hour
Responsibilities and Duties
- Preparing and serving breakfast to residents in the dining room approx 7.30am – 9.30am.
- Ensure that all food preparation and catering areas are cleaned and maintained to a regulatory standard.
- Think and plan ahead to support the Cook productively.
- Prepare and serve residents’ drinks at 10.30am.
- Load and unload dishwasher and wash up all pots and pans throughout the day.
- Set the dining tables for lunch starting at 12.15pm to a hotel standard.
- Prepare water/juice jugs and ensure sauces, condiments etc. are provided as appropriate plus cloth napkins for lunch
- Safe disposal of unwanted food.
- Clear crockery from dining room after lunch
- Take waste outside to be disposed of in external waste bins.
- Clean kitchen floor thoroughly to a required standard before leaving shift.
- Label of food in fridges and freezers if needed
- Check deliveries away in appropriate stores, rotating stock accordingly.
- Undertake such staff training & development as required to maintain high standards.
- Ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to.
- Be aware of allergies and procedures to report concerns
- Prepare vegetables as and when required
- Proactive communication to ensure stocks do not run out
- Any other reasonable duty as directed by the Catering Manager or the Weekend Cook.
- Attend supervisions, appraisals and any required training.
- Wear uniform provided and flat, sensible shoes at all time.

• Empathy with older persons.
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Flexible and willingness to work weekends on a rota basis, if required
• Basic Food Handling certificate (Training can be provided)
• Good planning organisational skills
• Understanding of food safety issues
• Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Home at all times both on the premises and outside events, as well as outside of work.
