Job Description:
At Penpergwm House, we want to provide our clients with wonderful, well balanced, varied and nutritional meals to not only satisfy all their dietary needs but to also be a source of enjoyment and comfort:
We are seeking enthusiasm, commitment and significant team spirit – you will need to have experience of working within a cooking environment in order to apply for this role – ideally experience of a care home setting and understanding of the requirement of a DBS.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Prepare fresh produce as required for the weekly menu.
- Preparation and serving of main meals in the dining room.
- Support and assist in the serving of snacks/specialist meals, as required.
- Be aware of health and safety issues when working with the residents and work within the IDDSI Food Chart and Health & Safety at Work Act during hours of employment.
- Communicate and positively work with other care professionals when appropriate regarding the serving of food to the resident/s. with dietary requirements
- Prepare and serve supper for residents in accordance with the weeks menu
- Ensure all kitchen appliances, equipment and surfaces are clean and dry and in good working order
- Report faults, hazards or risks to the Catering Manager and/or Maintenance Team as soon as identified
- Store food in the in the pantry and fridge/freezer following the current legislation
- Attend any training as required to maintain high standards
- Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Catering Manager or General Manager
Administrative Tasks:
- To record accurately all kitchen records and checklists that are required and directed by the Catering Manager.
- Use of computer and telephone for ordering purposes, if required
- Report and record all accidents and complaints following Penpergwm House Ltd policies and procedures.
- Attend any meetings that contribute to the effective operation of the kitchen
Person specification
- Current Food Hygiene Certificate – Level 3 (in date)
- Flexibility to cover sickness and annual leave (over 7 days including weekends, on a rota basis)
- Own transport essential – due to rural location
- Good organisational skills and ability to think ahead, being able to work within a time frame
- Food preparation knowledge – required
- Experience/knowledge of working with older persons – desirable
- Empathy and a positive attitude towards working with elderly residents and other staff members
- Basic English language skills
- Basic English literacy
- To be able to work as part of a team
- Able to follow instructions as well as use own initiative as appropriate
- Reliable and punctual
- Ability to communicate effectively, showing tact, patience, and sensitivity.

Knowledge and Training:
- Have knowledge and understanding of the hygiene and cleanliness of the kitchen, meeting all the requirements expected of a Residential Home environment
- A commitment to training in relevance to the Catering department in a Residential Home and personal development of knowledge and skills in this area.
- Agree to undertake statutory training to meet requirements
Qualifications:
- Current Food Hygiene Certificate – Level 3
