PALLIATIVE CARE
At Penpergwm House, we are committed to supporting our residents to remain with us as long we can care for them both safely and to our high standard of care. Therefore it is a priority to have clear guidelines in place for palliative care, when it is considered that a person has a limited time left to live.
At Penpergwm House, we champion the rights of individuals to choose how they live and this includes supporting their end of life wishes. A person is often able to stay at Penpergwm House, in familiar surroundings, around familiar faces, at the end of their life - as further support is provided by the GP, District Nurses and the Community Palliative Care Team.
Clients and families are encouraged to discuss and complete an Advanced Care Plan as well as the Advanced Decision to Refuse Treatment which provides more information to the medical professionals if the Client cannot speak for themselves. Throughout this sensitive and emotive time, families will also be supported to understand what is happening in accordance with their loved ones needs and wishes.
Being open and clear about something that is inevitable will hopefully reduce fear and anxiety, allowing a safe space to promote transparent and informed decisions. Please see the below website for more information:
