Dante, the Schoolboy with a Big Heart

Dante Valaydon-Pillay is a very special young man.  He has consistently found ways to raise money for charity and he is only 12.  We are extremely privileged, that he chose us to be somewhere he wants to share his money raising experience with.  Today he came and spent some hours with the Residents to introduce himself before coming to do a rather wonderful bake off with our Head Chef Nikki – to make as many Christmas cupcakes as he can in our kitchen on the 18th December      .  We can’t wait to be part of his journey and are so humbled by seeing such an altruistic and outstanding young man in our midst.

It was lovely to have his mother with him too; Frances has endured a lot of health issues in the past and Dante has chosen to fundraise for Children in Need as he wants to help other children, having been through a difficult period over the last couple of years when his mother Frances became ill.

Frances said: “A few years ago I had a series of major strokes. I was in hospital for three months, and because I was so ill it was too traumatic for Dante to visit.  This was an awful time for Dante and I, but he has shown so much bravery and resilience.  He would like to help other children as he has been lucky himself with the fantastic help friends and family have given to him, and knows that other children aren’t always as lucky to receive this help and support.

The Residents loved meeting this very special boy and he even managed a piano recital as well!  What a star!
