ESG Reporting

We believe that our greatest positive social impact is that Penpergwm House provides dignified, affordable and high-quality residential care to older people ensuring that this phase in their life is meaningfully lived in an homely environment that is both stimulating and reassuring.

Environmental

…refers to our environmental aspects, impacts and risk management practices. These include:

Renewable Fuels & Greenhouse Gas Emissions

  • We have been using Biomass boilers for a number of years – Biomass pellets are an organic material derived from plants and animals and by burning these biological materials in a biomass boiler provides a renewable and sustainable source of heat as opposed to using fossil fuels.  This produces very little ash and what we do produce we use on plants in the grounds
  • Predominately use only local contractors and suppliers in area – to relieve our carbon footprint impact

Energy Efficiency

  • South facing extensive solar panels are situated across our expansive building ensuring we create our own energy to support our electricity requirements.
  • Use of LED bulbs throughout the building – these bulbs use 90% less energy than halogen & last up to 50x longer than incandescent bulbs.
  • We have predominantly sensory lighting – that is motion sensor activated to save energy
  • Generator on site to support energy outage

Recycling Processes

  • Extensive composting of appropriate food waste
  • Recycling glass, metal, plastic, food waste and paper/cardboard with Wastesavers UK
  • Promoting extensive ecosystems across our grounds
  • Wide variety of plants & flowers attracting bees and insects to support that process.
  • Support HomeMakers – Homemakers now diverts over 300 tonnes of waste from landfill by reuse and recycling per year and has around 80 volunteers gaining valuable work experience over a year. In 2010 Homemakers also set up a Hardship Fund to support people in crisis situations by providing individuals and families referred to them with furniture to start a home.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Business Continuity Plan in place – helping us maintain or quickly resume business functions in the face of disruption, whether that disruption is caused by a natural disaster, civic unrest, cyberattack, or any other threat to business operations.
  • Cloud Storage for all back up records and filing.  Aiming towards paperless business support as much as possible.
