Thank you very much to everyone who came and chatted with us at the recent Usk Show (last weekend). Although the early morning weather wasn’t that auspicious, by midday the crowds thickened as the clouds broke up somewhat into a patchy, yet dry-enough grey. All who manned the Penpergwm House stall found the experience most valuable and it really was wonderful to meet so many people and tell them all about who we are and what we do. We have no doubt that as next year’s ‘show season’ kicks off we will once again be looking to attend some if not all the shows local to our area. Out of interest, talking with someone just this week, I asked how long the Usk Show had been in existence. The gentleman couldn’t give me an exact date but he remembers that it used to be held on a Thursday and children were given a half day off from school to attend. He recalled, as a schoolboy himself, attending one Thursday in 1963 when the showground was apparently in those days located in Llansoy. Like the Usk Show, then, long-established and well-known to the area so too we at Penpergwm House have been a mainstay local presence for many years. Long may we and the show continue with our respective histories. We will certainly try our best!
